We Are All One Body
Holy Spirit Parish is an active and faith-filled community that extends well beyond the boundaries of the University of Kentucky. We profess our Catholic faith that is both ever-ancient and ever-new, and wholeheartedly believe that we accomplish much more together than we ever could apart.
The living action of the Holy Spirit inspires us to join together as a community for liturgies, worship, social events, and service. We seek especially to make Christ known through acts of love and social justice.

Liturgical Ministries
Liturgies play a central role in the expression of Catholic faith. All of the faithful are called to an active and conscious participation in our communal worship and various liturgies that draw us closer to Christ. While the focus remains clearly centered upon Jesus Christ and the sacraments He initiated, the liturgical ministers play an important role in facilitating a smooth, prayerful experience for our parishioners and guests. Training for Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers, Hospitality Ministers, and Lectors occurs at the beginning of every semester. If you’re called to these ministries, we would love to have you – reach out below!
Music Ministry
There are many options for involvement in music ministry, including but not limited to liturgical ensembles and cantors (vocalists and instrumentalists who provide musical leadership for Sunday liturgies), the handbell choir, the women’s choir, the brass guild, and seasonal choirs and ensembles which sometimes form for Christmas and Easter. There have also been other ensembles such as a children’s choir and handbell quintet when sufficient interest emerges.
New and returning musicians are welcome to join liturgical ensembles and the women’s choir at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters as well as early in the summer break. The handbell choir and brass guild also accept members at these times and at additional times if circumstances permit. Please reach out if you’re interested in joining us!
Service Ministries
Here at Newman, we’re dedicated to living the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our community. We know if we have encountered Christ, our lives must change; we must do our part to console the heart of Jesus. Opportunities to serve others aren’t lacking here at Newman – just click the button below to learn more!
Youth Ministry
Youth ministry forms a vital part of Holy Spirit Parish Newman Center. We firmly believe that God calls all people into relationship, and Jesus was clear that this extended to the children. Our programs and events for youth are designed specifically for each age group to present the faith in a relevant, faithful, and inspiring way. All ministers and volunteers working with youth complete background checks, personal interviews, and are VIRTUS Safe Environment certified.
Programs for Pre-K focus on basic knowledge of the faith and self-expression of the relationship with Christ. Elementary age children are able to understand the basics of the faith and make positive choices in regard to morals and prayer practices. Programs combine catechesis, spiritual activities, and social events. Middle and high school students are able to question the faith and engage it from a place of honest inquiry. Our programs for this age group focus on the exploration of the faith, apologetics, and enabling spiritual encounters.
